I don’t necessarily love any of the games on the slate today and I didn’t want to only put 50% into a full on analysis. So I’ll give you three picks to supplement my lack of an in depth article.
Purdue vs Illinois 1st Half o69
I like the first half over here based on the fact that Illinois is celebrating senior day and emotions will be high. Leron Black had a career high in the Illini’s last home game against Nebraska and will look to keep up his high scoring rate today. The Illini are also coming off a loss against Michigan State and while they can’t make up much ground in the BIG Ten standings, pride is still at play here. Purdue will have a match up advantage with Isaac Haas and whoever the Illini decide gets the tough duty of guarding him. Purdue should establish an inside presence early in the game and let Hass do work down low.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Golden State Warriors -11
The NBA All-Star Break is over and the playoffs are inching closer. Golden State ended the first half with players coaching the team and Steve Kerr taking a backseat to game planning during timeout. The Warriors will more than likely start to take a more serious approach in the second half in order to get themselves ready for the postseason where they are the favorite to win a championship. The Rockets being sole owners of first place in the West will serve as extra motivation for the Warriors in this game as well as the rest of the second half of the season.
Wisconsin vs Northwestern -2.5 First Half
Northwestern came out hot against Michigan State in the first half last time they played at home and will hope to get out to an early and comfortable lead in this one. I also have a theory that the rims at the Allstate Arena play a significant role in teams’ scoring. Looking at the box scores for Northwestern’s conference home games show them leading at half time by a significant amount in most of them and then teams will close the gap on them in the second half. This most notably happened in their last two games vs Maryland and Michigan State. Northwestern lead by 22 and 7, respectively, at half time in those games and then got outscored 38-11 in the second half against MSU and were outscored 41-27 in the second half against Maryland.
That’ll do it for me today. Remember these picks are for entertainment only. Do not break the law. Always check gambling rules and restrictions in your jurisdiction before placing a wager.
