Braves (+105) vs Nationals
Second Play: o9 (-105)
AJ Cole has already pitched against the Braves this season and didn’t get the start he hoped for. Cole gave up 10 runs on 10 hits in just 3.2 innings of work. I expect him to have a little more success in this start, but the Braves seemed to see the ball well out of Cole’s hand. On the other side of this pitching matchup, Brandon McCarthy has gotten 15 and 8 runs of support this season when he takes the hill. In his last start, he faced the Rockies in Colorado and only gave up 3 runs. I always say not to double dip, but I’m feeling good about this one today. Two pitchers that have the ability to give up some runs and two offenses that can easily capitalize on pitchers that aren’t bringing their best stuff, let’s feast.
Rays-White Sox o8.5 (-120)
There’s supposed to be a high of 60 today in Chicago and the way these teams were hitting the ball in the cold yesterday makes it seem like this over is a no brainer especially with the nicer weather. The Rays are doing another bullpen day and the Sox are throwing James Shield on the hill. The Rays bullpen did well in their start against the Red Sox last week, but that was the second time they had a bullpen day against Boston. The bullpen has given up a bulk of the runs for the Rays in this series, so I’m confident bats on both sides will be alive and well today.
Astros vs Twins (+130)
The Twins are on a roll with Kyle Gibson on the bump, winning his last ten starts. Not only are they on a hot streak when Gibson starts, but over his career, he’s held the Astros to a .183 batting average. This is pretty impressive against this powerful lineup. Lance McCullers has had one good start and one bad start this season. His bad start came against the Padres, a team that has hit better than expected this season. The Twins have the ability to hit the ball well and really open up a game with their bats. McCullers has not faced a talented lineup like Minnesota yet and if his first two starts are any indication of how he’ll perform today, give me the Twins with a win at home.
