The San Francisco Giants are currently 6-9 (nice) and are tied for 3rd in the NL West. This could be the biggest stretch of the season for the team in the next coming weeks. The Giants play the red hot Diamondbacks and Angels this week and then next week are greeted with series against the Nationals and Dodgers.
I know it’s very early in the season and I’m trying not to freak out but I said if the Giants can get through April without Bum, Shark and Melancon with a record of about .500, they should be able to stay in it. I can’t help shake the feeling though that if the Giants are at least 10 games out of contention at the All Star Break, don’t be surprised if the Giants are sellers this year and get ready for #RebuildSZN.
McCutchen and Longo have not looked great so far. Although Cutch has had some key hits, he is still hitting below .250 on the year. And although I do give credit for guys like Blach for stepping up in the rotation, we need Bum and Shark back ASAP. Time will tell where these Giants will end up in these next couple weeks but for me, they need to come away with roughly a .500 record for me to feel good about the rest of the season. If they don’t, it’ll be a long climb up from the bottom in a division where the Diamondbacks, Rockies and even the Dodgers have playoff hopes.
