Dodgers -1.5 vs Padres
The Dodgers bats finally woke up last night as they wiped the floor with the Diamondbacks after being beat by them the last 11 times the teams met. They hit a good pitcher pretty well and caused an early exit for Zack Godley. I’m taking the runs in this game for two reasons. 1. Taking the Dodgers ML isn’t a great margin and the run line provides some value if you can get it at +115 and 2. This matchup features two pitchers that neither lineup has seen much of, but Ryu has a 2-0 record and a 0.90 ERA in 2 career starts at Petco Park. I also think that if this game comes down to the bullpens, the Dodgers have the upper hand. I’m banking on the Dodgers bats staying hot and the pitching being on top of its game.
This is a value pick at +100. Neither pitcher, Keuchel or Paxton, has gotten off to a great start this season. They have inflated ERAs and both of their teams can flip a switch and score some runs in a hurry. Both teams are coming off of poor offensive nights only scoring one run each. This may scare some people away, so if you choose to fade this pick, more power to ya. I’m going with the value here because neither pitcher has had a ton of success against the opposing team. I think a 5-4 final is very possible especially with the Astros bullpen struggling to find itself to this point in the season. Obviously it’s still early in the year and fluky things tend to happen in baseball, so these two pitchers could end up really hunkering down and we could see a pitchers duel. I think bats on both sides will wake up a bit and will benefit from playing at night so they have some time to erase their poor offensive days yesterday.
This is my 100th post on the site, so I’m hoping it’ll bring me some luck 🙂
