MLB Saturday

Padres vs Diamondbacks -1.5 (+125)

Good value pick here. The Padres have Clayton Richard on the mound who is very inconsistent. He can come out and look like an All-Star or he can give up 4-6 runs in 3 innings. I’m banking on the latter against a very good Diamondbacks offense who’s star player, Paul Goldschmidt, has had Clayton Richards number in his career. On the other side of this pitching matchup is Zack Godley who was terrific in his only start at home this season, pitching 7 innings of 4 hit baseball against the Dodgers. The Dodgers weren’t hitting well in the first matchup, but those are impressive numbers against any offense. I think he’ll shut down the Padres in his home ballpark today and his offense should be able to give him a comfortable cushion to do so.

Twins +110 vs Rays

The Twins don’t lose often when Kyle Gibson starts a game for them (they’ve won his last 11 starts) and I think a heartbreaking loss on an error yesterday will motivate the Twins to jump on Blake Snell and the Rays early. The one bad game that Gibson had this season came against the defending World Series Champion Houston Astros and the Twins still won that game with a walkoff in the bottom of the 9th after giving up their 7 run lead. Luck definitely plays a part in some baseball games, and the Twins are lucky when Gibson is on the mound. Also they’ve won both games that I’ve bet on them recently on a walkoff hit, so this game may not be a smooth ride, but I’m confident it’ll pay off in the end.

Cubs-Rockies o9.5 (-110)

I feel like a fool for putting this in because the line was at 10.5 last night which means people hammered the under, but I’ve seen Yu Darvish pitch this year and I don’t think Colorado is going to treat him well. He gave up 4 runs to the Braves on a day with the wind blowing in and the Rockies are very comfortable with hitting in their home ballpark. The Cubs put on a show last night and should be able to do the same tonight if they come to the plate with a similar approach to what they had last night. I can easily see this game being a 7-5 result with the Cubs winning. The inconsitency of Darvish and lack of report for Tyler Anderson with Cubs hitters will yield a high scoring game. (Or the Cubs are going to strike out 15 times and get 3 hits).
