If you’ve been watching this show since season 1, you already know it can be a little confusing at times. I don’t know if I’m going to do this for every episode, but I figured I’d give it a shot and try to summarize everything that happened and the overall theme.
This episode brought to life how dangerous artificial intelligence can be once it malfunctions. The hosts are starting to have memories and are able to think for themselves without being under the command of their creators. Not only are they having memories, but if you remember from the last season, the hosts started a massacre and started killing humans. They pick up right where they left off and show a scene where Delores is hanging three of the creators of the park.
Delos, the company that runs Westworld, has been logging the DNA of all of the visitors to the park. The visitors would sign away on everything, so they were essentially giving up all their data without really knowing. Bernard was obviously not aware that Delos was doing this because when he saw one of the inactive hosts scrub the dead body for DNA samples, he was shocked and had a very disappointed look on his face. This was all kind of reminiscent of the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica ordeal that is currently taking place. Which now that I think about it, that doesn’t make me feel any better about the real life situation because Cambridge Analytica also deals with robotics. That’s besides the point, the real issue is that Delos is a morally corrupt company that has the DNA of every guest that ever visited their park.
William, the man with the black horse and hat, has finally reached the center of the maze and has gotten exactly what he’s been looking for. He’s got himself into a game where he can kill and also be killed and everything has a consequence. Kind of seems like the opposite of the purpose of Westworld if you ask me, but this guy obviously got lost in the game.
Delores has found herself a new character as she takes on the Wyatt storyline. I’m all for this, nothing more attractive than a woman who isn’t going to take shit from anyone. I don’t really get how she can see in the past, present, and future all at once, but it definitely adds something interesting to the show. It looks like Delores is just going to go full-blown Wyatt in this season and terrorize anyone in her way. I’m excited to see how it shakes out.
